Finding CDL truck drivers

Recommended Posts

Here are some tips on where to look for CDL drivers.

1. Utilize Online Job Platforms

Online hiring websites  are valuable tools for finding CDL drivers. These platforms allow you to post job listings and search for candidates based on specific criteria like location, experience, and license classification. This method provides a broad reach and the ability to filter potential candidates efficiently.

2. Explore Trucking and Transportation Companies

Many logistics firms, both large-scale and local, employ CDL drivers directly. Visiting the job boards of these companies or contacting their human resources departments can lead you to available positions. These companies often seek drivers who can adhere to their specific operational standards, making them reliable sources for qualified candidates.

3. Connect with Vocational and Technical Schools

Vocational and technical schools that offer CDL training programs are excellent resources. These institutions frequently provide job placement services, helping their trained and freshly licensed graduates find employment. Collaborating with these schools can give you access to a pool of new drivers who are eager to start their careers.

4. Engage with Staffing Agencies

Staffing agencies specializing in the transportation and logistics sector can offer temporary or permanent CDL drivers. These agencies understand the industry demands and can quickly provide drivers who meet your specific requirements, offering a flexible workforce solution.

5. Leverage Industry Groups and Associations

Organizations such as the American Trucking Associations (ATA) host job boards and networking events that can connect you with experienced CDL drivers. Membership in these groups also provides updates on industry standards and access to a community of professionals.

Hiring Considerations

  • When hiring a CDL driver, it's crucial to verify their credentials and suitability for the role:
  • License Verification: Ensure the driver holds a valid CDL appropriate for the vehicle class and cargo.
  • Experience and Safety Record: Assess their driving history to confirm a track record of safety and reliability.
  • Endorsements: Check for any specific endorsements needed for different types of cargo or vehicles.
  • Reference and Background Checks: Conduct thorough reference checks and background screenings to validate their professionalism and reliability.

In my opinion, those job board sites like Indeed.com and ZipRecruiter.com are dead. I only see social media as the best option for CDL driver recruiting.

Actually, niche job board sites for CDL truck drivers are still rocking it, effectively matching drivers with the right gigs.
