LunarNova November 7 Share November 7 Hello, fellow box truck dispatchers! Is anyone here dispatching for box trucks? It’s been tough lately on the load boards... I’m struggling to find reliable loads at decent rates. Any tips on achieving a steady weekly income, ideally around $2 per mile? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Whisper3r November 7 Share November 7 Hi, I dispatch box trucks as well. Success really depends on a few factors. First, the type of vehicle you have matters if it's less than 18 feet, it’s tough to find good rates. But if you’re working with a fully equipped 26-foot box truck with a lift gate and pallet jack, you’ll have more options. Second, what kind of routes are you running local, regional, or over-the-road (OTR)? For example, local box truck work in Arizona or Florida is challenging, while areas like Chicago and New York have better opportunities 😉 Lastly, a good dispatcher is essential. If your current dispatcher isn’t finding you work, it might be time to switch. I work with box truck drivers in NJ getting $2.80 per mile, grossing between $2,500 and $7,000 weekly. Find a skilled box truck dispatcher this can make all the difference 🙂
Solare November 7 Share November 7 Focus on building round trips to and from busy regions. DAT, for example, provides data on high-demand areas right on their homepage. Having a 26-foot box truck with dock height, a lift gate, and a pallet jack can also open more doors. Consider getting endorsements like hazmat, TWIC, or even a tanker endorsement; these can help boost load options. While longer trips rarely pay $2 per mile, multiple shorter local runs might help reach that goal. Best of luck!
Gossamer November 7 Share November 7 I’ve had success by stacking partial loads. Right now, partials average around $0.66 per mile, so running three partials can get you close to $2 per mile. For example, I have a carrier managing four partials on a run, earning $3 per mile overall. This strategy has worked well for our box truck dispatching.
